JOB PURPOSE

The Forklift Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate movement of materials within a high-volume floor-storage warehouse environment. Since this facility operates entirely without racking systems, the role relies heavily on strategic floor stacking, block stacking, and precise space utilization. Key responsibilities include offloading shipping containers, staging and packing away materials, loading outbound trucks, and assisting customers. The operator is also strictly responsible for daily equipment maintenance inspections, absolute compliance with workplace safety protocols, and maintaining exceptional standards of attendance and punctuality to ensure seamless warehouse logistics.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

● Container Offloading: Safely offload incoming shipping containers (including Port of Spain/Point Lisas arrivals), ensuring materials are handled without damage and staged correctly for verification.

● Floor Packing & Stacking: Organize, stack, and pack away materials directly on the warehouse floor using stable, safe block-stacking methods to optimize spatial capacity without the use of storage racks.

● Truck Operations: Load outbound commercial delivery trucks securely and efficiently according to invoice, ensuring every load balances correctly, and offload local transfers or incoming supplier deliveries.

● Customer Assistance: Assist walk-in and commercial customers promptly by locating, retrieving, and loading purchased materials with a high standard of professional service.

● Pre-Inspection Checks: Conduct mandatory daily pre-operational checks on the forklift prior to beginning operation. Complete the daily log completely and accurately.

● Fluid Management: Check and top off essential equipment fluids daily (including engine oil, coolant, hydraulic fluid, and brake fluid) to prevent operational failures.

● Discrepancy Reporting: Immediately report any mechanical faults, structural wear, fluid leaks, or safety hazards regarding the forklift directly to the Warehouse Manager.

● Attendance & Reliability: Maintain consistent attendance and strict punctuality for all assigned shifts to ensure scheduled loading and container offloading timelines are met.

● General Demands: Maintain clean driving aisles, keep loading bays free of debris, and perform all other related duties as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

● Certification & Licensing: Must possess a valid, certified Forklift Operator’s License / Permit.

● Experience Profile: Minimum of 2-3 years of active forklift operation experience, preferably within heavy material handling, metal/steel logistics, or industrial warehouse environments.

● Floor Storage Competency: Demonstrated experience and skill managing dense block-stacking and bulk floor-storage configurations without relying on static racking systems.

● Physical Demands: Excellent spatial awareness, depth perception, and manual dexterity. Ability to lift up to 50lbs comfortably and assist with manual handling or sorting when necessary.

● Core Competencies: Basic literacy and numeracy to accurately interpret container sheets, dispatch invoices, and maintain daily vehicle checklists. Strong punctuality and strict adherence to workplace safety regulations.
